Here Is The Statement Of The Liberation Collective Of Nganang With Regard To Biya

The Cameroonian writer Patrice Nganang could be deprived of his freedom in the coming days. 

He is prosecuted for three counts including false and use of forgery, contempt of the President of the Republic and death threats.

The group of lawyers who took over his defense reads the facts with regard to the laws in force in Cameroon. Here is what comes out of it in this press release that he published this December 10, 2017.

Here Is The Statement Of The Liberation Collective Of Nganang With Regard To Biya
The Nganang Liberation Collective (CLN) is strongly against and strongly condemns the arbitrary kidnapping and detention of Patrice Nganang, Human Rights Activist, Professor of Literary Theories and Writer.

Nganang was kidnapped at Douala International Airport on Wednesday 06.12.2017 at around 11:00 am while boarding Kenya Airways flight No. KQ577 bound for Harare, Zimbabwe. He remains arbitrarily kept at the Judicial Police (PJ) of Yaoundé.

Facts:
From the United States where he resides, Patrice Nganang arrives in Cameroon about three weeks ago and has two major projects. First, support the people and activists of the Southwest and Northwest regions; then, to carry out empirical research for his next book on the genocide of the Bamileke people of Cameroon. As a man of letters, he expresses his opinion on President Paul Biya on his Facebook page dated Sunday 03.12.2017.

On Wednesday 06.12.2017 while boarding Kenya Airways flight No. KQ577 to Zimbabwe, Nganang was illegally abducted by police officers from Douala International Airport and held in secret until at the moment when his wife, based in Harare, alerts the opinion of his disappearance.

Two long days of mobilization and research led sympathizers, friends and lawyers where the police kept him in secret. On 08.12.2017, Mr. Simh, his lawyer, announces having found Patrice Nganang at the PJ in Yaoundé. Detained at the PJ in Yaoundé Patrice Nganang is auditioned on 09.12.2017.

The hearing lasts more than 5 hours. Patrice Nganang and his lawyer are facing seven investigators including the Patron of the PJ. Patrice is accused among other things of contempt of the head of state and death threats. Monday 11.12.2017, Patrice Nganang will pass before the prosecutor. 2017.

In view of the foregoing,
The NLC protests against:
The kidnapping of Patrice Nganang in violation of the regulations in this matter,
The arbitrary detention of the citizen Patrice Nganang,
The violation of the right to freedom of expression of the citizen Patrice Nganang .
And claims:
The lifting of ban on visiting him,
Respect for the dignity and the person of the citizen Patrice Nganang,
The unconditional release of citizen Patrice Nganang.
Recalling that, in accordance with the 1998 Declaration of the Nations of Defenders, the Grand Bay Declaration of 1999, and the 2003 Kigali Declaration, the State of Cameroon is responsible for the security and physical, psychological and Defenders of Human Rights and Activists, the CLN intends to mobilize and organize vigorous actions in favor of the release of Patrice Nganang.
