Assault on Isseri at Mebe Ngo'o: Journalists' Union Seizes Paul Biya |
Here is the statement of the SNJC
On March 03, 2018, Cristan Isseri, journalist for the daily Le Jour, put in reportage to tell the atmosphere at the home of Mebe Ngo'o Alain Edgar, Minister of Transport left the government on March 2, was arrested undressed, molested and humiliated by the relatives of the deposed government member.
The National Union of Journalists of Cameroon (Snjc) condemns with the utmost energy this odious act and denounces the attack on the physical integrity of the journalist who was in professional situation.
The Snjc, in solidarity with Cristan Isseri, invites Cameroonian journalists from inside and outside the country to engage the personal responsibility of Mr. Mebe Ngo'o Alain and his relatives, who shine through an ostentatious use of armed violence against the press.
The Snjc invites all journalists concerned about the public interest to know everything, to investigate the personal fortress where the journalist of the daily newspaper Le Jour was almost killed.
The SNJC asks the competent authorities to seize this act of aggression in particular, and to provide journalists with the necessary protection in the exercise of their profession. In the meantime, we strongly discourage our members from putting themselves in unnecessary danger, by getting close to some of the high-ranking officials of the Republic who are disgraced.
In addition to the referral to the head of state of this case on March 4, the Snjc seeks prompt intervention from the African Federation of Journalists and the International Federation of Journalists to bring the protests of men and women of Cameroon to the attention of the world press community
