The multinational military exercise Unified Focus 2018, launched last Monday at the Naval Base in Douala, has several objectives. In his opening remarks, the governor of the Littoral region, Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua, said that apart from the capacity building of the operational units engaged, it is also a question of understanding the evolution and the mutations of terrorism and violent extremism on the one hand, and on the other hand, to put a synergy of action and exchange of intelligence in the fight against the nebulous Boko Haram, the Islamic State and other.

"I am convinced that your work, which will last a week here in Douala, will achieve their objectives," he said. On this occasion, the Governor thanked the United States Government for choosing and trusting our country to host this exercise for the second time.

Brigadier William Prendergast of the US military said the military exercise will enhance security and stability in the Gulf of Guinea.

The same is true for the Major General, commander of the 2nd Joint Military Region, Saly Mohamadou. The exercise is led by the Cameroon Ministry of Defense, the US Embassy and initiated by Africom.
