Problematic Aambazonian Leadership: Incessant Killing of Anglophones by Unidentified Men Pose The Problem of Ambazonian Leadership

It is these acts of violence that forced the Cameroonian authorities to bring in the army.

Acts that force the army to remain deployed in the Northwest and Southwest and prevent the exploration of political solutions to end the crisis.

The secessionists have struck again. On Wednesday, April 25, 2018, individuals claiming separatist groups operating in the northwestern and southwestern regions burst into Kosala high school in Kumba and opened fire. During this act, Ashu Thomas Nkongho was murdered and several students were wounded.

According to the local authorities, by such acts, the separatists are trying to force people to adhere to their slogan of boycott of republican institutions. For the past three months, armed separatist groups have been multiplying violent actions against state symbols (gendarmerie attacks, abductions of civil servants, clashes with the army).

To date, there are dozens of members of the security forces and civilians killed by separatists. Last week, while traveling to Menji, in Lebialem division , for the installation ceremony of the new prefect of the department, the convoy of Bernard Okalia Bilai, governor of the Southwest, was attacked.

It is these acts of violence that forced the Cameroonian authorities to involve the army in these areas. Nevertheless, they remain convinced that dialogue is the solution to the crisis. “The dialogue, I make it clear, has always been and will always remain for me, the preferred way of solving problems, insofar as it fits strictly within the framework of republican legality”, reiterated President Paul Biya in his message of the end of 2017 to the nation.

The lull observed at the beginning of this year had left hope for the possibility of exploring political solutions to end the crisis. “The situation is stabilizing in the South West and North West. This should allow the Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism to tackle the heart of the problem, “said President Paul Biya during his youth address on February 10, 2018. Projects compromised by the resurgence of violence observed in recent weeks.

In his message of the end of the year 2017, the President of the Republic of Cameroon assured: “The consultations that I conducted, but also the many opinions and suggestions that I gathered, have reinforced me in the idea that our fellow citizens wish to participate more in the management of their affairs, especially at the local level. ”

In response, the Cameroonian head of state proposes “the acceleration of our decentralization process” which, he believes, “will help strengthen the development of our regions”. President Paul Biya has just created a whole ministry dedicated to the implementation of decentralization.
