Biya, France to Blame For Escalating Anglophone Crisis in Cameroon - Rawlings

Former Ghanaian President Jerry Rawlings says France and Cameroon’s Head of State Paul Biya should be held responsible for the escalation in the North West and South West Regions of the country.

Rawlings who has been one of the very few persons on the continent to raise their voices on the current situation in the region described the crisis as a “horrible situation” and lamented the fact it has been under reported due to the interest of some powerful western powers in the country’s resources.

Rawlings was speaking in Accra while receiving members of the TakeItBack movement led by Omoyele Sowore, a presidential aspirant in the forthcoming elections in Nigeria.

A Togolese Activist, Farida Nabourema, who is part of the TakeItBack team and was recently in Cameroon, took the opportunity to give her of eye witness account.

“The week I was there, they actually shot four young men. We were going into town and a woman stopped us where there were four corpses of Anglophone Cameroonians,”she said as quoted by Sahara reporters.

Sahara Reporters quotes the activist as saying, the family later confirmed that one corpse was deposited at the hospital, while others were taken away by the military. The activist also spoke of widespread burning of villages, which she described as ethnic cleansing.
