Security has been tightened at the Bamenda Central Prison after an attack on Saturday night by suspected armed men which was immediately pushed back.

Sources say a high level meeting was held in Bamenda on Sunday morning where it was concluded security will be improved upon at the prison to guard against future attacks.
Saturday’s attack came as the latest in a series of attacks on prison in the North West region that has forced authorities to transfer inmates from secondary prisons to the Bamenda Central Prison.

The Wum prison was recently attacked on Tuesday Septempber 25 with over 70 prisoners freed after armed men had early carried similar attacks in the Ndop and Bali prisons.
The transfer of prisoners to the Bamenda prison has a capacity to host about 300 prisoners but has since seen the number of inmates tripple is raising a serious problem on the detention condition of inmates.
