Ailing Mugabe, wife Grace flown to Singapore in private jet chartered by cash-strapped Zim govt

Zimbabwe’s former president Robert Mugabe and his wife Grace, have reportedly been flown out of the country for "emergency" medical checks in Singapore.

The Mugabes left on Sunday on a flight chartered by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government, New Zimbabwe.com reported.

Mugabe, 94, and Grace, 53, have “been struggling with poor health, regularly travelling to the southeast Asian country for medical attention”, the report said.

Robert Mugabe’s son-in-law is being investigated by a special anti-corruption unit in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s office, a newspaper reported Monday.

Simba Chikore, who is married to Mugabe’s daughter Bona, is allegedly under investigation over his role in negotiating the purchase of four second-hand Boeing 777 aircraft from Malaysia Airlines, said the private NewsDay.

"He (Chikore) is being investigated for his role in the deal, but it seems the whole issue could suck in Mugabe himself or better still, his wife (former First Lady Grace)," an unnamed source close to the investigation told the paper.

Zimbabweans have reacted angrily on social media after President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government reportedly chartered a plane for former president Robert Mugabe and his wife Grace, who flew to Singapore over the weekend for medical checks.

The Mugabes left on Sunday on a flight chartered by Mnangagwa’s government, New Zimbabwe.com reported.
